Appendix B Rule 26-706
This Rule requires that only receptacles that are designed, constructed, and marked as tamper-resistant
receptacles, “TAMPER RESISTANT” or “TR”, in accordance with CSA C22.2 No. 42, be used in the locations designated in Subrule 1).
The intent of the Rule is to protect children from shock if they tamper with receptacles accessible to
them. For those situations where the receptacle is inaccessible, a non-tamper-resistant receptacle may be used. Examples of such situations where the receptacle is inaccessible are microwaves in cabinets, refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, those located in an attic or crawl space, or those installed above 2 m from the floor or finished grade.

It is intended by this Subrule that unless otherwise designated by an authority having jurisdiction for child care facilities, a child care facility is considered to be an area designed to provide care to persons 7 years of age or less.
